Penne al pollo de la cassa

One of my fav places to eat when I am shopping in Exeter is a pizza/pasta place called Ask. I always order the same pasta dish each time I go; penne al pollo de la cassa.

It is penne pasta with chicken and mushrooms in a creamy white wine sauce, it also comes with a side salad.

Mum had the same as me and we also shared a garlic bread:

I had a voucher for any two main meals for £12 which was fantastic as usually one pasta dish costs at least £9/£10. I think the whole meal came to around the £22 mark.

When you go out for supper do you try and find meal vouchers?

Williams Arms - North Devon

Another post on a meal out, this time three of us visited a pub called the Williams Arms. Great food with chilled out atmosphere, they appear to have a cavery on offer constantly.

Here is a few shots of what we ate:

Strawberry cheesecake, death by chocolate fudge cake and a chicken dish (which doesn't look very nice, but it was lovely!) Simple pub food and friends, what more could you want.

Pier House, Westward Ho! North Devon

Next up in my supper tours is the Pier House in Westward Ho! Yes, the town does have an exclamation mark on the end.

This is what we had:

To start we both had king prawns in filo pastry with a chilli dip, I had steak with all the trimmings, he had the pie and veg, I had creme brulee and he had the shortbread and fruit salad with clotted cream. He regretted not having the creme brulee for pudding.  We only drank water so the total cost of this meal was £49. I paid for the whole meal because my friend is a gardener and he comes round to the house and mows the lawn and sorts the weeds out in the drive way, so this supper was my thankyou to him as he won't accept payment for the work he does.

Prezzo in North Devon

It has been a while since I wrote about a supper date! I went to the local Prezzo with one of my oldest friends recently. Prezzo is an Italian restaurant, basically pasta, pizza and they have some amazing chicken dishes too. I never pay full price when I eat at Prezzo, there are so many vouchers floating around for buy one get one free main meals or two main meals for £12 etc.

Here is what we ate:

Deep fried mozzarella and tomato relish (we both had this starter) my friend had the pizza and side salad, I had pasta carbonara. For pudding she had the cheesecake and I had the chocolate fudge cake.

I can't remember exactly the full price of our meal, but we ended up splitting it in half, so it wasn't too expensive. When it comes to eating at chains I am a bit boring and eat pretty much the same food every time I go.

North Devon's Ring O' Bells

My friend and I went out for another meal after work, the paper we work at goes to print first thing on a Wednesday morning and going out for supper after work is a good way to relax and catch up after a hectic deadline day.

This time we opted for the Ring O' Bells in Prixford, near Barnstaple, North Devon. A lovely country pub in a quiet village.

We had garlic mushrooms in a creamy sauce, the Ring O' Bells burger and vanilla creme brulee.

Again, we split the bill, we paid about £21 each, for three courses and drinks, amazing value. I have to say this was the best creme brulee I have ever had. So rich and creamy but I couldn't finish it.

I also loved the fireplace in the pub, would be great for a hot chocolate during winter.

North Devon's Braunton Inn

Luke and I went off to the Braunton Inn for a bite to eat. The Braunton Inn used to be called Tarka Inn, I can't quite remember when they changed the name, but it must have been in the last few months. We had a lovely meal, here is what we ate.

Shared starter of chicken goujons with a side salad, flat bread and a tomato mayo.

We had the same main meal of hunters chicken, chicken breast with BBQ sauce, bacon and cheese. We also had a side of beer battered onion rings.

The location of the pub is lovely, right on the edge of the water, it is fab sitting in the garden during the summer.

The meal (including drinks, coke and an Appletizer) came to around £26, not bad. The service was fantastic, even though it was busy, our waiter was attentive and friendly.

Love The Pub Grub

I love going out to eat and living in North Devon there are loads of wonderful country pubs, this time my friend Emma and I chose a pub called Thatch in village called Croyde - a gorgeous costal village. We went all had and had starter, mains and puddings!

Here is what we had:

Deep fried brie with a salsa dip and creamy garlic mushrooms with bread and butter.

For mains beef lasagna and pheasant pie

Such generous portion sizes! After having a bit of a rest and digesting the first two courses, we somehow found room for pudding! Chocolate fudge brownie and baked cheesecake. Both with Devonshire clotted cream.

This whole meal came to £30.59 for both of us! Seriously good value! The main meals with 2 for £12 and the puddings were 2 for £6 which helped the budget. The atmosphere in the pub is amazing, such a chilled, relaxed vibe. Lots of surfers pop by for a swift pint. I love the thatched roof and county style decor with wooded beams on the ceiling.

What are your fav places to eat near you? I love chains such as Prezzo and Pizza Express, Ask and so on but most of all I love the local, independent pubs and cafes, they all have their own style and quirkiness.
